| the Laplacian demon Pierre-Simon Laplace (1749-1827) founder of the mathematical theory of probability imagined, during the period when classical dynamics was at its apex, that an all seeing, all knowing demon exists. It is capable at any given instant to see the position and velocity of every elementary particle that forms a quantum of space-time. Furthermore, it knows the history and evolution of these elementary particles both from their pasts and their future destinies. However, the malicious demon creates indeterminism and holism. Unless one is privy to this demonic power, all shall remain ignorant of the truth about the operations of the Universe. The power of this demon is equivalent to a Markovian interconnected mesh of probability network where every point of space-time is connected to all the other points. The result is that at each point, the probability is exactly unity, absolute certainty! Both space and time cease to have any meaning since the demon can move from here to there in no time at all. Nevertheless, a universal principle of duality would indicate that for every malevolent power there is an equally benevolent power. These opposites are constantly locked in a struggle for dominance, one for the sake of chaos and the other for the sake of order. If these are primary forces they necessarily repel each other and none comes out the winner. However, if one is turned into a secondary force then it will be attracted to the primary force and be consumed.
