Once, in 1994 I went to Georgian Republican Hospital (to Reanimation-anesthesiology department, where I had worked before), to see the old honest friends (former co-workers) of mine. That evening I couldn’t meet all of them, because they were on operation. The department is placed on the first floor of 12-store lengthy, but narrow building, at one end of which is entrance, which is connected to mentioned department with passage (50 m). I waited for a while, but when decided to leave, the doc. On duty – young lady asked me to wait a little. I felt some premonition, and as I almost always obey to it, I stayed for a while. Suddenly, there was a noise from outside and knock and kick on the iron door of department. Hospital attendant opened it and two armed guys broke in screaming: “quickly a doctor!” (They were under the influence of drug, as it appeared afterwards – the heroin). I wasn’t in uniform, so they didn’t take me for a doc. But they captured the student, who worked as a voluntary medical assistant and forced him to follow them. I didn’t intend to go with them, but when saw the pale face of student, guessed that it was too dangerous to let him to follow guys alone, so I decided to go with him, informed him quietly about it by wink, but anyway tried to keep distance and observe all of their behavior from behind at 10 steps when we went to the car, which was stopped at the entrance. I noticed that young lady – duty doc. Also collected equipment and followed student, leaving department to another doc… As it appeared afterwards, she feared for the student and intended to help him, and hoped that guys would behave better in the company of woman, but I really didn’t share her optimism. When coming out of building the guys set at front, but med. personal – at back. I set beside the lady and quickly commanded guys to drive backward, bearing in mind, that I had the chance to get my famous nose crunched. In the spur of moment they obeyed, but while driving out of the gate of hospital almost made an accident. When I commanded the second time, they stopped the car, turned back and warned me to shut up, or I would receive, they said. Anyway I had no other way but to permanently urge them by my scanty psychological skills, always ending before “on my nose and under my jaw”; they were uncontrolled. To say briefly, we all received a great scare, until we got to the destination, three-four times were saved from the accident by a miracle. As it appeared, they were from my neighboring residential area, belonged to one of the dangerous organized criminal grouping, and when coming out of the car I told the guys that I was their neighbor, they took me for friend and asked to act quickly. I ran up to the stairs, on the fourth floor, rushed in and found 15-20 armed persons in the apartment: all of them under drug influence; but one of them - victim was laying on the floor, his cubital vein was cut off (surely guys tried to do something amateurishly), without breathing, his revolver was in the blood nearby and the only guy, who really acted balanced, was kneed before him, victim’s head laid on his knees, trying somehow to help him. The pulse was felt on the carotid artery – the heart was still working. At the same time my friends-medics appeared and events developed themselves quickly: the heart stopped and lady-doc. had to make injection directly to heart – adrenalin, then artificial respiration. As soon as the guys relaxed for a moment, we at once offered to hospitalize victim, because in case of his death we wouldn’t survive, but our arguments were, that he would die without clinic. To be brief, in an hour after leaving the hospital we reached it back again. On the way the breathing began to restore, and so we succeeded. Now it’s really easy to tell, but believe me, we all were exhausted, so great stress we endured. And the most important for me: This young lady became my wife, and we have two children, and they are everything for me. Yes, I was in the right place at the right time then! Or, rather, when I behaved well, the Holy Spirit placed me in right place at a right time! |
