Actually the Michelson Morley experiment did not prove that the Aether did not exist; it only gave a null result that did not prove it either way.

The notion that photons are real traveling units of light is a widely promoted misconception, even though Feynman is one of the promoters. Light is a wave in the medium regardless of what one may call this medium. The photon is a measured quantity increment of energy perceived as absorbed or emitted. It is not a real existing force particle traveling from place to place.
