Let me see. Does work? Apparently it does now. It appears imperative to leave a single space between the square bracket tex wraps and the formula, term or statement, otherwise problems will develop. Also, it is probably a good idea to preview your work in a true environment before posting it if it is a complicated expression. I notice unpredictable results when making errors, such as a huge preview panel that extends far beyond the sides of the screen and a very large empty selection block that appears in the editing window where the wrong code is entered.

I could assume that the as printed is already stored in the database and that is why it is displaying properly. So then apparently the expression e=mc^2 is not, since it doesn't. But is. I could be assuming the wrong thing. But why can't I display Einstein's famous equation?
