Does the "recognition" of philosophy still pertain to the Western part of the world?
For your information, there is a list of eastern philosophers. The thing is no that philosophy is reduced to the western world, but that philosophy itself was born in the western world. At least philosophy as seen from the Greeks, as logos instead of mitos, as rational thinking instead of divine explanation. It is not science (although that too was invented by the Greeks). The eastern philosophy does have rational thinking too, but it emerges from very different ideas and ideals, and different aims, and different ways, and different wills... As everything is different, philosophy is the western thing. I can't think for a good term for eastern philosophy.
