I think it depends. I mean, there is also philosophy of science, and you haven't doubt whether it must be done by philosophers or scientists. Currently it is done by both, but it is done by philosophy. What I mean by this is that whether it is a philosopher or a scientist who is doing the philosophy of science, is philosophizing about science. We don't scientitize about science. There is not a science of science, at least for the moment, so it is the role of philosophy, whether done by a scientist, a philosopher, or anyone else to philosophize. For to philosopize means it is a philosopher, at least for the moment. The same I believe with the philosophy of math. It's not a question about who does it, but about what is done. And what is done is to philosophize, in any philosophy of something, or any philosophical question (like, what is science? what is math? does math discover or invent? Is science purelly empirical?...).
