Ashley, you have touched on the most important subject of our reality. PBS did a special on this very subject about a year ago, and the consequences of the diminishing magnetic field could be catestrophic for humanity. The scientists surmised that should the field diminish to a certain level, the magnetosphere that protects the earth from dangerous cosmic radiation would no longer be able to support life, in its worst case scenario. According to the show, at the point of pole reversal, the magnetosphere shrinks to near zero, and would wipe out most life on earth. This was their conclusion from geological and other scientific data from deep glacial ice samples. If it's all true, it's not a pretty picture.
Not only does the earth have a magnetosphere protecting it, but the entire solar system has another magnetosphere protecting it called the heleosphere, which we know little about, as it's so far from us, yet we do know it protects the solar system from extremely fast blowing solar winds, outside this protective membrane. If the magnetosphere should shrink to dangerous levels, destruction would become accelerated quite rapidly, as may be happening at this very moment, and is further surmised to be more the truth about real global dimming/warming, than straight global warming. A PBS show a couple of weeks ago told about global dimming[clouds with heavy particulates collecting water droplets] reflecting sunlight back into space, creating such dimming, at the same time the co^2 gases are trapping earth's excess heat___so it's not a single threat we face, but a triple wammie, of mamoth proportions___so maybe the Myan Calandar is more true than we hoped for... All I can say is we better start learning much about these three factors if we are to survive the future... Sorry for the cheery news...
