krateesh, if newtonian gravity is correct, there would be nothing to hold the earth to its orbit. I'm not sure if decay is the correct word, but certainly according to this logic, the earth would stop revolving in circles and then head in a straight line (ultimately)? or perhaps it would be captured by the gravitational pull of another heavier body (Jupiter perhaps) and perhaps could crash into that body? I actually don't understand why the earth doesn't crash into the sun...(total newbie!) The first is only interesting if it is the beginning of something.
