As long as we are resurrecting this thread, I would like to return to AntonioLao's quote from Confucius.
The universe is. It exists for all of us, or you are alone and it exists in your mind. It's existence it systematic - processes repeat, objects last from year to year or moment to moment.
Before "He who knows and knows he knows, his is wise, follow him", there is the foundation that "something can be known". In other words, there is a universe. There is something knowable. This is, literally, the universal set - the set of all things that can be known.
IMO, rather than follow anyone, it would be even better to understand the universe, first and foremost. The universe is, the universe is systematic, the wisdom of the universe is embodied by laws governing these systematic processes, and we must follow the universe because it's laws are omnipotent and omnipresent. Since knowledge exists within the universe and survives because of the laws of the universe, the universe can be said to be ominscient, too.
The scientific method is based upon laws of logic (philosophy) which assist us in gleaning knowledge about universal laws.
What is knowledge???
Knowledge can be nothing other than reflections of the universe in which we exist.
