First, what can not be perceived? Let's not make an assumption. Secondly, to know something through its "representation", is not to say WE know the "something".

So without any preconceived limit on perception or representation of the "something", a TOE can only begin in one way, without immediately falling into a "relative morass".

It has to begin with an ABSOLUTE.
