I have read a lot about ectoplasm and ghosts, but was not familiar with a few of their properties that you mention in this thread. It's a fascinating field of study and I am grateful to you for being able to learn more about this subject. I also understand that you people in the U.K. have a much better opportunity to explore these things first-hand than we here in Canada because you seem to have easier access to gifted and honest mediums as well as a greater abundance of haunted buildings with your long history.
As far as ectoplasm is concerned, I may be wrong, but I thought I had read somewhere that apparently it was recently chemically analysed and found to be some kind of protein. Would it perhaps be possible to make an arrangement with the medium in advance of any sitting and get his or her permission to collect samples of this ectoplasm in its various forms before it is re-absorbed into the body? Somehow I would think that with this advance knowledge the medium might not be harmed. Though, on the other hand, the medium might then not be able to go into the necessary deep trance under these circumstances. Anyway, it might be worth a try and it sure would be interesting to find out whether or not any DNA could be found in this substance.
As for ghosts, somehow I would think that this is a slightly different phenomenon - as you suggested - and I am under the impression that in recent years there have been many measurements done by many investigators, though I haven't seen any conclusive results yet.
Nevertheless, I am confident that, with the right instruments, some ingenious people sooner or later will find out what exactly all these esoteric phenomena are. In the meantime it's just fun to speculate about them.
