Why just the gravitational wave? Why not "Matter becomes space via the decay of all waves; gravitional, sound, heat, motion, em, shock, thermal, you mame it?" Then it all recycles, all over again. This would account for finiteness decaying into infinite space. I agree with the rest of your post...
