Dear Lloyd Gillespie and friends, You are right about the simple idea of the bending light ray path around the sun by gravitational force according to Newton’s law. This is the classical concept in which we need not to worry about the geometry of space-time. Indeed it is equivalent to the modern concept of variable geometry of space-time which need not worry about the gravitational force. This comparison was done by a famous philosopher, Bertrand Russell in his book “The analysis of matter”. In the topic of “Geodesic”, Russell had studied and discussed an interesting view about the physics’ philosophy of relativity. Sincerely, Nimit Th. |
