Some think that the Theory of Everything is only required to explain the unification of the four known forces. Others that it is a true Theory of Everything. I am not sure which of these two the majority on this forum support.
Every time I try to work out the distinction I end up back with the unification TOE as the only possible one. If I start off thinking the TOE really will be a theory of life, the universe and all that I arrive at the same paradox. Any theory that totally explains life, the universe and all that could account for all history since time began and all of the future until the death of the universe. Wars, religion, physics, spirituality, ingrown toenails, even why we need such a theory. You might argue about the future, but if you leave it out, the theory is no longer capable of accounting for everything.
Any further advance would be impossible because it would not be within the theory's account of the universe. You can't add to the theory after its discovery because the theory already contains everything. At this point I usually reach the conclusion that the theory is redundant. The universe continues on its diurnal course the way it always has regardless of the discovery of such a theory or not. Such a theory would be meaningless
The only theory that is now possible is the unification theory. Once we have understood the unification of the four forces the possibility of our now affecting the future of the universe, (absolutely zero at present) becomes a possibility, in fact a distinct and measurable probability even. We now hold the exact receipe to build / found a universe. We have always held the materials.
If you subscribe to the theory that life is seeded thru out our own universe in some form of archea or eukaryotes then it may be our purpose to seed this or other universes with a hi order life form such as ourselves. Life in its lonely all conquering journey will have passed another major milestone.
