Re: What happens after you die?

Dear Robert, HappyStripper, Guille, Zeroka & Baudrunner....
See what David Maes has done - initiated a seriatim of questions and answers orbiting the ultimate mystery. What happens after you die? Algebra immediately steps in and introduces the approximate question, 'What happens before you're born'. In the midst of that equation is the mortal coil asking the questions. There are many people who think that the universe depends exclusively on their existence, and that it didn't exist before that person was born and won't exist after that person dies. The only profound quality of such thinking IMHO is how anyone could possibly be that egocentric. And, if they're right, there's a different and temporary universe per mortal human lifetime. Meahwhile, supernovae are extinctifying entire solar systems as we write and read. The universe clearly doesn't blink on and off with the scintillations of individual human life times.

I was cliff climbing on one occasion when I suddenly had to fight panic and froze. About a hundred feet beneath me was nothing but large and small boulders with seagulls and the sea flying and breaking around them. It occurred to me that if I should fall the sea would continue it's dance and the gulls would continue their flight patterns and songs, everything would go on just peachily with out me. It wasn't the first time my insignificance overwhelmed me, but it was one of the more memorobale. Needless to say I managed to resume my perilous climbing journey to a more secure location. No. Life isn't cheap, it is precious, and, it's equally temporary. A flash in the pan. Been coming and going on for a long time. And the mystery that accompanies it is as old as sentient consciousness. Thanks for the inspiration. Personally, I think I more or less agree with all of you...

Regards, RP
