Just by chance I found this here Michael's thread with his interesting paranormal story on how he saved a lady from committing suicide, while trying to go through all the threads on this incredible website. Reading on, I then found your story too on how you met your wife. Quite an adventure! And I would think that this your common experience in a rather scary situation should make for quite a strong life-long bond between the two of you.
Somehow I am still wondering how you are doing in finding funding for your ambitious scientific endeavour you are describing in some of your ToeQuest posts. Judging from the above story and your medical past, I gather that your urge to help people in precarious situations has always been pretty strong (just like Michael's apparently is, through his kind of self-sacrificing work) and so I hope you will eventually succeed.
I, too, had a rather miraculous escape from almost certain death 62 years ago, when the machine-gun fire from a low-flying American B-17 G bomber on the last Allied bombing raid of WW II on Plzen made a beeline for me, a lone figure on a deserted railroad platform, but in the last minute just barely missed me by perhaps 2 or 3 feet. I wasn't able to talk about this heart-stopping experience for almost 50 years and I, too, at first credited the Holy Spirit or "the Good Lord" or my Guardian Angel for my survival. Now, as a scientist looking for a more realistic reason, I figured out that it really must have been the pilot, after just having dropped his entire load of bomb on the Skoda armament works as well as the engine of my train a couple hundred feet in front of me, who had started the turn to the right towards Bavaria and back to the homebase in England, while the gunner in the chin turret was still firing straight ahead (at me). The trail of bullets stopped about 6 feet behind my big suitcase that had protected me from all the flying concrete and shrapnel.
This is, of course, a rather mundane explanation for such an incomprehensibly exceptional event - and so I somehow feel more comfortable now to think that it could have been a paranormal entity, perhaps the surviving spiritual energy of my benevolent Czech great-uncle (Plzen lies in today's Czech Republic) whom my mother had described as a very kind-hearted man who had enabled her to study and become a teacher. Only recently, 100 years after his death, I found out that he was actually considered to be a well-known and well-liked mathematician and physicist who had even found his way into Czech encyclopedias. So now I even know where my "unladylike" love for math and physics comes from.
Thanks to you and Michael for giving me the inspiration with your paranormal stories to write about my own. - I wonder, should I now be considered a "basket case" if I wait for a paranormal answer from my great-uncle as to whether or not I should even continue pursuing the quest for the theory of everything via the variable G concept and earthquake prediction?
