Most People who believe that we are the product of a creator, also believe that the creator, God, gave us independent and free will.
When God gave us free will, we really liked it. We had parties and orgys and even built a golden calf. In the end we used our free will to deny God. This gave God a massive headache and so he was forced to exercise his power over our free will by adding a few addendums and caveats. We call them the ten commandments. These took all the fun out of living. But we are free to deny them too.
This leaves God only two choices, take away our free will altogether, or cease to meddle in the affairs of men and become as tho he had never been. Guess which one he chose.
