At heaven’s birth, positive energy
Became matter—countered by gravity,
Whose attractive embrace was negative;
So, still, their sum adds up to nullity.



Thus from nothing was written our account,
And to nothing we’ll still have to amount;
But in between those two parentheses
The pluses rain on us from Heaven’s fount.
