I used a number of models to try and explain the "rule of 3' found in quark groupings. What I learned from this is that groupings of 3 are the most stable structures that can arise from a self organising system.
So that implies what you said about two arms, one torso, etc.
Also here is something you might find of interest. The man who discovered quarks, compared them to the eight fold path of eastern tradition.
