Never having had the pleasure of reading Dr. Hawking, though having an interest in this subject, if I may interject as a sidebar the following reference. To wit:
The Universe as a "Torus":
A Black Whole(End) as intake and A White Whole(Beginning) as exhaust, (dependant on "perspective" of course, e.g. "I"n it, but, not "O"f it) a reciprocating machination of perpetual energy, AllOne (no pun intended). (-Drifter)
All "happening at Infinite speed", that is at, or near/beyond the Speed Of Light(where the finite becomes infinite). So the theory goes according to Itzhak Bentov, scientist, inventor-extrodinaire, Mystic.
