You mentioned the term "though patterns". Actually, a thought is already a pattern of ideas.
While a single individual idea might have been sparkled and repeated down through the ages. A thought need to include many ideas. Those serial ideas need to be organized to form a pattern - as what you said "thought pattern".
Just like in copyright laws,
ideas, mathematics and equations do not enjoy copyright protection. However, their serial patterns together with annotations can be copyrighted.
So, most ideas are not unique but a valid thought (pattern) on TOE is likely to be unique and thus able to claim for a First Priority.
