The importance of a scientific theory is the same as the importance of a science fiction story; they are fun to fantasies and think about, and also for many, fun to play with. And if they are really good stories, people make them into movies.
But unfortunately, It makes me very sad to tell you, they are much like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, only make believe and not really true.
