Why would you consider it an honor for someone to change the topic that you started? For someone to add to a topic, or build upon an idea, I would consider that to be an honor. But, if I were to start a topic about, let's say increasing member participation on the website, and someone comes along and, I don't know, starts talking about something completely unrelated like, well, weather manipulation. Some might consider that rude behavior. I think you would agree.
But I do get your point and think it's ok for a thread to meander a little bit as long is it relates to the topic. If it strays too far and would start significant discussion it is better to start a new thread with a reference to the new thread in the original thread. That makes it easier for others to quickly search for relevant information. It also prevents threads from growing too large. Who wants to read through 50 pages of postings when the topics strays all over the place? We've got a few threads with this very problem right now.
Oh, and by the way, we have 178 active members now.
