It's just an "alternative reality," not a new universe in a different spacetime. I'm not too good on this interpretation of QM, so I'll leave it there and see if anyone else wants to chime in?

Well, I probably could do, but then I'm not really sure what you want to know. Do you want some popular books on string theory (in which case I'd probably recommend Brian Greene's books to start) or some technical books on string theory (in which case I'd recommend Zwiebach's book "A First Course in String Theory-- although, beware, this will require a fair bit of maths, knowledge of QM and especially Quantum Field Theory.)

I can also probably point you towards some reliable websites too. Anyway, let me know what you want and I'll try and get back to you!
