Yes. Quite a bit has been written on this from a variety of different points of view. Stanislav Grof's book "The Holotropic Mind" summarizes some of his work over a 35 year period. Carl Pribram has also theorized extensively in this area, as has Michael Talbot in his book The Holographic Universe. My initial question looks at it from a slightly different angle, but overlaps these discussions. Googling the above will take you to detailed treatment of some of the issues involved - but not the way I put the question exactly, as you will see if you get into it.
