Good question Michael. But I've got no idea.
My thought is like this.
We have got Nuclear force. We have Nuclear energy.
We have electomagnetic waves. We again have an energy associated with it. E=hf.
We have Gravitational force. But gravitational energy?
I guess they brought in the graviton concept mainly to combine gravity with EM.
What do you think?
