David is correct in a sense that the only energy is kinetic energy, the energy of movement. Potential energy is just that, potential. It's the apple sitting in the tree, it has potential energy because of it's position, and gravity. The real energy doesn't manifest until it starts falling, kinetic energy the energy of movement.
