No one asks anyone to doubt consciousness, plus it is much only a subject and never an object, for that is it job (to witness). It's just that since no one knows how it operates, any leap from there to say more is just a guess.

In general we know that consciousness can be affected by affecting the brain, so, in general, consciousness seems to need a brain to operate.
