vortices and spins both need defining directions. The math that describe these properly is a vector product. However, vector products are not commutative therefore, there must be two directions and only two and no more. In the northern hemisphere, all hurricanes spin, say counterclockwise but in the southern hemisphere, they spin clockwise.
