Well if you don't want to go down the road an talk to Stephen, you can borrow his book from the library. "Quest For A Theory Of Everything" by Stephen Hawking. He is the current leading expert on Black Holes. He should be, he created the theory along with the concepts of singularities.
The basic concept implies that atomic structures would be disassembled to a level of the quantum units of matter just before the singularity at the core sucked it up. Of course due to time dilation, this would take a few billion years by our perspective and instantaneous by the atom's perspective.
Personally I do not believe that matter can be reduced that far by the mire actions of a Black Hole. The uniform motion of a Black Hole is not great enough to perform this task.
