| expansion and contraction Cosmologists say the universe is expanding (moving forward to the future and forward in time). This expansion is in exact opposition to the force of gravity. If the universe has a cycle then eventually it must contract (moving backward in time and dominated 100% by gravity) and then starting another expansion on and on.
