Humble Pie for Physicist Fans - 06-05-2006, 02:21 PM

Have you ever known something about a serious subject, but understood it in the simplest and yet profound way that involves powers greater and older than yourself or anything you can find?
Let's pretend I had a dream that I talked to a star, the sun, for example. And the years of time before people existed were long and lonely. So a game was invented, similar to soccer, but with no goal net and a million things to be compared to the soccer ball(galaxies). And so there was fun to be had by chasing galaxies. Looking upon a million galaxies all moving apart stirred up a bit of cosmic fun.
Laugh all you want, but didn't most of you soccer loving gods spend the time off the field chasing something, let's see, girls, or boys for you same sexers.
Thus, the result is this huge mystery that could be seen as a simple case of star behavior, doing what comes naturally, chasing galaxies and holding them in a gravitational squeeze(blush and please look away!), forgive me for accepting the things I cannot change. The rest of the story...who knows...

Absolutelly true. This is part of Nietzsche's philosophy, particularly what he goes explaining throughout 'The Twilight of the Idles' which in my opinion is his best book (although it isn't his most profound book, it is his most independent book). The main argument is that the idles change in form (before it was god, now it is money; before it was war, now it is sport...) but have the same significance (subversion of the masses).

Before it was war, now it is sport. I love that. Remember when Star Wars was visiting our consciousness. Now it is Galactic Soccer.

Thank you Michelle for this thread starter, how very true, now in England all you hear about is football, cars have flags flying on them to support the game,me I cannotstand the game, never have,i would sooner watch paint dry than watch a game of football, the footballers themselves are
like gods, thousands seem to worship them, and want to read about there every move in magazines, really pathetic, but there you go!
kind regards michael

Great analogies, Michell...
