    The Spell Of The Yukon

The world being a big place, not everyone may have opportunity to see it all in a lifetime, and many are tied to the land or their commitments and so may not journey far from home.

I awoke in the middle of the night, and it occurred to me, that with the technology of the internet, and the forebearance of the owner of this forum, that I might share some of the scenery and the history of Yukon with any who would enjoy this journey with me.

The Spell Of The Yukon, is a poem by Robert Service, made here into a music video by Les McLaughlin and Tracey Brown.

Paddlewheeler, by Hank Karr, is almost a Yukon anthem.

The S.S. Klondike marks the south entrance to our city, and has been beautifully restored.

Some archival footage included of the paddlewheelers in action.

Sam McGee is character in a famous poem by Robert Service.

We shall get to the poem a bit later. Here is another song, titled 'Tell Me, Robert Service' by our Yukon balladeer, Hank Karr.

The bears of Kluane National Park have their own promotional video, lol, and I rather like their taste in music.

Here is some of the history of the Alaska Highway, Yukon's main transportation link to the 'outside', as we locals are given to calling the rest of the world.

Re: The Spell Of The Yukon

We have a trolley service along the waterfront, where one the Yukon and White Pass Route trains used to come to the end of the line.

Some history of the railway that connected Skagway and Whitehorse included.

This seems like an excellent spot to insert Johnny Horton's classic song, 'North to Alaska'.

One of the local 'watering holes' in Dawson City, Yukon, is affectionately known as 'The Pit', as folks have been know to party down until they had to crawl out, lol...

The Undertaking Daddies play some pretty lively two-stepping tunes, and this song is one of their better known numbers,

    Last Night In Town.
