I discovered this photo on this website. It's a NASA photograph of a region called Ismenia on Mars. It is a very compelling one, and takes its place right along with the toy gold airplanes found in ancient Egyptian tombs and Aircraft landing strips high in the Andes that have been there since pre-Inca times.



It's not at all hard to imagine that this was once some kind of alien outpost. The sharp definition has been eroded over millenia by the windstorms that sometimes cover the entire planet. I can make out at least five structures that appear not to be natural landforms, and possibly there are more.

Michael, I would really, really appreciate it if you would stop posting replies to every single submission that any and everybody makes on this site. This is a very interesting thread starter and you have thrown it right off the front page with another one of your superfluous responses to every damn post that gets submitted. You are the reason all the veteran posters won't give this great web site the time of day anymore unless you're absent. You are just being a nuisance. Now get lost!

I don’t see anything that would lead me to believe there are artificial structures, but I do share your sentiments about Michael’s superfluous posting habits.

Don't you see it? The problem with this kind of imagery is that most often the interesting elements usually aren't centered because of the path of the orbiting satellite. It's just snapping away in a timed program. Toward the top and left in the photo are at least two obvious bunker like structures and just to the right and below of them you can make out three more. Now, those there could be depressions, but if you study the shadowing of the first two, they are definitely not, and have a very squared appearance. Also the strange and unnatural layout of formations centered at the top deserve closer scrutiny.


On Earth, archeologists have dug entire cities out of the sand, Roman columns and temples intact in places like Syria, which were until recently completely hidden from view. I am not making any commitments but as far as I am concerned the above photo is just begging for a closer look.

As you can see in the final one taken recently compared to to the other two taken in 1976 appearances can be deceptive.

No, they do not appear to be of the same area, Ismenia. If you'll take a closer look at my first post, there is a structure very close to the square bunker-like object in the upper left that does not show in the 'face' formation photograph. This is definitely a different region altogether.

Also, would you scale down your images a little and/or convert them to a smaller .jpg file so that they load faster and so that we don't have to scroll right to see all of them? Be a little more considerate. We get the picture.

Oh, wait, it just occurs to me that you are comparing only your images. If that's the case then I have to say that the source of my photo claims that it is unretouched. The face photos, with the exception of the 'big' one, appear to be retouched. Still, that is an interesting formation that suggests that it is indeed an artificially sculpted formation. And I'm talking perhaps tens of thousands of years ago so any erosion effects would appear to be normal.

Sorry BD ..... I didn't realise the width caused the problems .... yours (your picture)also is doing the same to me this end, if I was inconsiderate, it was inadvertent. I can't figure out how to edit it to delete the pic. will send a PM to Robert.

My point was that what you see in one photo from one angle can appear totally different from another angle, and resolution. The photos are not re-touched..... the early ones were taken of mars in 1976 ... the last with better cameras and closer orbits last year.
