For centuries, writers have attempted to predict the future of the human race.
Some have argued that we are destined to evolve into super-beings, others that we are turning into dim-witted goblins incapable of anything more demanding than watching TV.
But according to a leading geneticist, both visions are wrong because human evolution has ground to a halt.

For those who dream of a better life, science has bad news: this is the best it is going to get.
Our species has reached its biological pinnacle and is no longer capable of changing.
That is the stark, controversial view of a group of biologists who believe a Western lifestyle now protects humanity from the forces that used to shape Homo sapiens.

'If you want to know what Utopia is like, just look around - this is it,' said Professor Steve Jones, of University College London,
who is to present his argument at a Royal Society Edinburgh debate, 'Is Evolution Over?', next week.
'Things have simply stopped getting better, or worse, for our species.'

The Secular Basis for Self-Esteem

You are the descendant of a tiny cell of primordial protoplasm that washed up on an ocean beach 31/2 billion years ago. You are the blind and arbitrary product of time, chance, and natural forces. Your closest living relatives swing from trees and eat crackers at the zoo.

In short, you came from nothing, you are going nowhere, and you will end your brief cosmic journey beneath six feet of dirt, where all that is you will become food for bacteria and rot with worms.

You are a special creation of a good and all-powerful God. You are the climax of His creation, the magnum opus of the greatest artist in the universe. You are created in His image, with capacities to think, feel, and worship that set you above all other life forms. You differ from the animals not simply in degree but in kind.

Not only is your kind unique, but you are unique among your kind. God has masterminded the exact combination of DNA and chromosomes that constitute your genetic code, making you as different from all others as every snowflake differs from the rest.

Your Creator loved you so much and so intensely desires your companionship and affection that, despite your rebellion, He gave the life of His only Son that you might spend eternity with Him. Thanks for your answer michael - does that mean humans have not finished evolving? are we to develop into something much more superior do you think, maybe a super-being?

Or, do you think we may extinct before there is any noticeable change to our present appearance?


My thoughts are that evolution is so so slow that there is never anyone to be around long enough to observe it actually happening?

My thoughts are that evolution is so so slow that there is never anyone to be around long enough to observe it actually happening?

That is a possibility Melanie,that we go extinct,or are all wiped out by a collision with say an asteroid,however even if that did happen we would still all exist in a different dimension,thats all. On what we will evolve into I think that is simple,we will evolve into becoming more inclusive,and expressing more of what IS,the Absolute.

O wise one ... It is for this reason that many think it is not happening at all. But it marches on to the beat of its own drum, not ours.
