Hi Cool bananas.....I suppose the good Doc was speaking from the mindset of a Doctor when she made that statement...maybe thinking along the lines of medical ethics and of course the oath to do no harm and maybe even suggesting..owing up to why "survival" does seem now to be the general strain and push of life. Of course I am not in her mind so speculating here my friend. I suppose its a statement anybody could make and if I would make that statement I would probably say that the essence of life is to love...so there you go..it could come out as almost anything.....

If I see a train coming and your on the track...if I don't tell you, it will be a pity for you and a shame on me....
I quite agree, Greg. My point being that it takes far more energy to care enough about survival than the alternative. But tell me this ... How can you care if your dead. According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs ... First comes Food, Shelter, survival .... and then the finer feelings ...
Altruism, which basically means investment of the self without expectation of return, takes even more energy. I have often wondered what power motivated persons such as Ghandi and Mother Theresa, just for two well know personas, to make the effort that they did.
In closing, I thank you for the compliment, and I likewise, would like to acknowledge my respect for your knowledge and comments.

P.S. - As for the being dead bit, I think they are working on that on another thread, LOL. Otherwise, I'll have to get back to you in another lifetime.
I think Philanthropy and Altruism and such like can be shown to be positive natural selections within Darwin's theory ? (even in energy return on investment)
The fact that the rewards of such actions are not immediately tangible is not proof that they are not 'positive' for that species.
I believe other mammalian species display varying degrees of these traits.

I believe we are in accordance on this thought.
While immediate benefit to the individual may not be apparent, there may accrue future benefit to offspring or the species as a whole. Additionally, some non-tangible benefits may be gained that have positive influence. Helping others often empowers us through a sense of well-being which may then carry over into other benefits as we proceed.
As you point out, nature provides us with a model in other creatures as well. Appreciate your thoughts. LW
I believe for every drop of rain that falls a flower grows
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night a candle glows
I believe for every one who goes astray someone will come to show the way
I believe I believe
I believe above the storm the smallest prayer will still be heard
I believe that someone in the great somewhere hears every word
Every time I hear a new born baby cry or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why I believe
(I believe above the storm the smallest prayer will still be heard
I believe that someone in the great somewhere hears every word)
Every time I hear a new born baby cry or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why I believe I believe
Don't take me too literally on this one ....

Due to my present ongoing study into Immunology, I consider the following statements by David Icke to be absolutely relevant to questioning our health and wellbeing and the rise of cancer and other disease in our society...
The treatment of cancer through chemotherapy drugs is the medical equivalent of Stone Age Man wielding a club. 'I know how to cure a headache, I'll knock the guy senseless'. Another analogy would be attacking a handful of alleged terrorists by pepper-bombing Baghdad and killing tens of thousands of civilians in the process.
How appropriate, then, that the same force is ultimately behind the bombing of Iraq and the insane cancer 'treatment' that people receive in hospitals across the world.
Chemotherapy doesn't just kill cancer cells, it kills cells, period. I mean all kinds of cells including the healthy ones. Here we are nine years into the 21st century and the treatment of cancer is based on a simple and extraordinary question:
Will we kill the cancer cells before we have killed enough healthy cells to kill the patient?
What's more, the human immune system consists of cells and this is why chemotherapy patients all complete the 'treatment' with a devastated immune system that leaves them open to all kinds of other attacks on the body - including more cancer. In truth, modern cancer 'treatment' is often little more than assisted suicide.
Years ago I saw a film showing microscope footage of the immune system killing cancer cells. This is happening all the time and when the immune system is healthy and vibrant cancer is kept in check. But here we have the very treatment of cancer - chemotherapy - destroying that defence network.
The word insanity does not even begin to suffice.

The second case concerning the overwhelming evidence showing vaccines caused a child's autism (Bailey Banks vs HHS) has found the vaccine court again ruling that vaccines caused Bailey's autism and ordered compensation for the family.
This case follows the previous case of Hannah Poling in March of 2008 where the government conseded the case and the vaccine court awarded her family compensation.
