"Myth" has a specific meaning. It is necessary for humans when they’re trying to imagine something important that lacks every-day building blocks.
A myth is not a lie nor is it a form of prevarication. A myth in this definition is not in conflict with science either. It is rather a human face on science. It is an artistic dimension. It is a form of vision. It is for example what you experience when in love. Are you in conflict with zoology, biology or sociology? Of course not. They are all encompassed in the myth you are experiencing.
Or take another example for candidate myth: TOE. In addition to the scientific details humans desire an overriding picture that represents the whole thing in human terms and is not in conflict with science. (Well, perhaps a little wiggle room could be allowed.)
Then we get a picture that TOE totality could be a communication system between two not quite consenting adults from outside the system while their messages back and forth make up the dynamics tending toward the evolution of a third entity, which is our still-unfinished universe.
On the one hand we do need myths on the other we are victims of self-appointed myth makers, TV, Hollywood and the ultimate in Nazi Germany.
In addition our old myths have a resistance to change. That’s due to their operators who would immediately be out of business in the minute the myth is upgraded. That’s the “stability dimension” of consciousness playing itself out in various brick walls.
In conclusion I think TOE cannot be imagined without the help of myth even if all the science is worked out. Hawkins talks about the “mind of god”, and that’s another story.

ps
The concept of MYTH is well explained by Joseph Campbell.
Recommend searching on that name.
