Qualifications & Disclaimer

As the host of this forum I consistently inform visitors that I am not a qualified therapist and can only offer my advise and opinions as a lay person who has been in PTSD counseling with the Vets Administration and those in private practice, since 1996. - Kai

As a trained clinician myself who has dealt with her own PTSD issues, I also understand the limits of internet support. Even the RAINN online hotline is "unavailable" when their staff are busy with others.
One can't expect to utilize an internet forum or chat in the same way someone can expect support from a crisis phone hotline or 911 or their own mental health provider. Even in some cases with crisis lines or after hours emergencies it goes to a pager that requires some wait time.
The net does provide some sense of support but shouldn't and can never take the place of other more necessary forms of assistance.
I don't speak for anyone other than myself and others may have different opinions but I have never expected more from an internet chat or forum than just a place to go and talk with others that might relate. I have not seen it as a replacement for a crisis hotline or 911 therapy.
Sincerely, April5th
