Lately I've been working later than usual at my day job to meet an upcoming deadline. Last night I worked late again, really late. By the time I finished my work it was very dark outside and I was very sleepy. I was driving home from my university one day many years ago wondering about the free will vs fate issue. Do we truly have free will, able to make choices based on our own conscious thoughts, uninfluenced by any controlling aspect of reality. Or is everything ultimately predictable and conscious control of life only an illusion. I was driving home my usual route, my usual speed, listening to the same music as I had done many times before. I was eating dinner at a restaurant recently and spotted an older lady who I think may have been the manager of the Restaurant. This caused a long sequence of mental events, each thought triggering an associated thought, and then I realized and became sad that my third grade teacher was probably dead by now.
