Forum Introduction - 11-14-2005, 11:49 PM

Purpose
This forum is available for discussions on the various branches of philosophy. There are currently four sub-forums dedicated to branches that are anticipated to carry more traffic:
  • Philosophy of Epistemology - Study of Knowledge (How do I know about it?)
  • Philosophy of Ethics - Study of Action (What should I do?)
  • Philosophy of Metaphysics - Study of Existence (What is out there? What is reality?)
  • Philosophy of Religion - Study of Religion (Does God Exist? Is religious belief reasonable? What is the value of faith?)
The main "Branches of Philosophy" forum is reserved for discussions on those branches not available in the sub-forums.

Background
There may be 100 or more branches of philosophy available with many overlapping in areas. The branches of philosophy has traditionally been broken into five main branches or areas of study: philosophy of metaphysics, philosophy of epistemology, philosophy of ethics, philosophy of aesthetics, and philosophy of logic. These main branches may vary depending on the source you reference.

Over time other sub-branches of philosophy have arisen such as philosophy of science, law, politics, education, history, and economics. There are many more.

Below are some references that you might find useful.
Posting Guidelines
Your threads should relate to one of the branches of philosophy and should relate to the Theory of Everything. Try and identify the branch of philosophy, if it is not obvious from the context of your post. Not necessary in the sub-forums. If thinking about philosophy in the context of a specific branch of philosophy is new to you, I would recommend that you browse some of the references, read some of the articles available, and then post some questions that come to mind.

Also, if you haven't done so already, be sure to review the general forum posting guidelines.
