    Re: 2008-04-19: What is Time?

I'm sorry analog, I guess my brain is as dense as a black hole. I'm sure David or Neutralino would be the ones you would want to discuss this with to get proper feedback.

A few thoughts I'll share with you, though they may be very simplistic.

I view the big bang to be like a pressure cooker that exploded. This initial explosion accounted for the spatial inflation, and later the spatial expansion.

I believe time to be relative in accordance with Einsteins theory of special relativity.

I don't view time to be a seperate entity. Also if there was such a thing as "infinite time" it would no longer be time, rather it would be eternal or eternity, neither one being time, since time can be measured, and eternity can not.

In closing you'll have to take this discussion up with one better trained than I.

    Best to you sir,

    Pat

    Re: 2008-04-19: What is Time?

    Pat,

    Thanks for your comments.

Dave and I have discussed some of these statements before. His comments, as well as Neutralino's, are always welcome and appreciated, as I respect both of their opinions.

I'm not a supporter of the Big Bang, as this would be more of a framework to explain "energy". I think percieved "energy" is due to the absolute motion of matter.

Anyway, thanks for the chat. See you around the forum.

P.S. Increments of time are measured as increments of motion, and the infinite potential comes from infinite absolute motion. Motion never ends, thus if we allow all fundamental matter to have equal velocities, their plank distance traveled, relative to each other, from frame to frame, can be equivalent to a plank measurement of time. Einstien's Relativity would come in when we accelerate a massive (more dense) formation of fundamental matter through a less dense medium of fundamental matter, whereby the internal frequency of the particles which made it up would increase/decrease relative to the change in velocity of the acceleration, due to absolute particle velocity. This would also increase/decrease its relative dimensions in accordance to the velocity of acceleration, being as size is relative to internal frequency.

I too enjoyed the chat analog. I have to admit I was getting a brain ache however. This I'm sure is due to oxygen and electrical impulses hitting that part of my brain that perhaps have been dark for years. ( My own personal dark matter ).

I do look forward to further discussions with you on other subjects that I may be able to better participate in.

Once again best to you analog,

    Pat

    Pat,

I think you're not giving yourself enough credit. A true TOE is just as, if not more, likely to come from a truly learning passionate person, like you, than it is anyone else with any degree of intelligence. You seem to have what it takes...DESIRE, which keeps you moving onward. All you need now is direction, which will allow you to move forward, and you very well may have that also. I don't know, as I too am searching for the correct direction, which will bring the most meaning to my travels.

All we have to do now is keep from getting intimidated by the seemingly uncomprehensible knowledge we seek, which brings death to learning, and be arrogant in knowing that we can understand the most seemingly incomprehensible of things if given the chance and direction, which gives life to learning.

I will certainly take a look at it and respond to your thread about it as soon as I can absorb it enough to make hopefully intelligent comments. I am honored that you would seek my views and I will do my best to be constructive.

    your friend,

    Tim

By the way Prof., what makes time (or the measurement) dilate with rise in velocity?

    Hi Dippy

It doesn't - just our perception of it.

    Re: 2008-04-19: What is Time?

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Jump to: navigation, search
Time dilation is the phenomenon whereby an observer finds that another's clock which is physically identical to their own is ticking at a slower rate as measured by their own clock. This is often taken to mean that time has "slowed down" for the other clock, but that is only true in the context of the observer's frame of reference. Locally (i.e., from the perspective of any observer within the same frame of reference, without reference to another frame of reference), time always passes at the same rate. The time dilation phenomenon applies to any process that manifests change over time.
In Albert Einstein's theories of relativity time dilation is manifested in two circumstances:In special relativity, the time dilation effect is reciprocal: as observed from the point of view of any two clocks which are in motion with respect to each other, it will be the other party's clock that is time dilated. (This presumes that the relative motion of both parties is uniform; that is, they do not accelerate with respect to one another during the course of the observations.)
In contrast, gravitational time dilation (as treated in general relativity) is not reciprocal: an observer at the top of a tower will observe that clocks at ground level tick slower, and observers on the ground will agree. Thus gravitational time dilation is agreed upon by all observers, independent of their altitude.
