Smile Expansion of consciousness . - 10-25-2005, 11:04 PM

Can our consciousness continue to expand,is there anything that would inhibit its continuing growth! Is there such a thing as Cosmic-consciousness,and if there
is can we all attain it! Unlike our animal brothers,we know, that we know, and are
self-conscious,we are aware that we live and die! Will our minds reveal to us the
Real secret of life! And if it did would we understand it!

kind regards Michael.

I want to note that a mind's expansion isn't physical expansion. It is existential expansion. Also, for this, the fact that each thought or mind (set of thougts) exists quantititavelly n times, that means that there are n thoughts or n minds for which and in which it exists. Not that there are physically n times that same mind in the physical world.

This is a dificult thought, I'll try to explain it better in another post later.

Actualy Guille, the expansion of the mind IS actual physical expansion. That is why babies learn more as they grow bigger, their brain expands. Some empirical evidence to back this up is a study in which London taxi drivers, who have to train for 2 years learning places, were found to have slightly larger hypothalames compared to the average size.
On this subject, do you think that if the brain was genetically engineered to grow larger, we would be capable of learning more and our conciousness would therefore expand, giving us a higher level of access to the TOE??? Also, you say 'animal brothers' which is derrogatory as we ourselves are animals, often forgotten by humans (a species of animal). After all, it wasnt that long ago that your ancestors were swinging in trees eating bananas.

When a thing is full it is full, the universe is totally full of consciousness,so what is it that could possibly expand, well there is a universal consiousness,of which we are immersed in,we are to all intents and purposes, liked closed units,we are immersed in an ocean of mindfulness, but we need to tune in to this channel,if we fail to tune in,we get just the biological feed-back from our physical brains.and denied access to the mind that interacts with the brain, the more we look within the more we identify with each other, the more we question what is
then the mind will access the brain more often and then our awareness of what
is will grow because we will be tapping in directly with the universal souce and
no longer drawing from just the physical brain.it is not our conscoiusness that expands but our inner awareness.

kind regards michael.

I couldnt agree more But the problem is that are we capable of doing so? I say this because humans think that they have reached their peak and a higher level of consciousness is not needed because we can do everything that we need (most of which are mundane). When you look at it really, we arent that smart, we just think we are. For us to expand our consciousness, we ned to deflate our heads and think seriously about the problem instead of taking it for granted.

simplekid18,

The fact that the brain expands doesn't mean that the mind expands. The mind is just the set of all thoughts and ideas. If my brain is double tomorrow than today, but I have no more new thoughts, then, the mind will be as today even tomorrow. This is what I meant.

That is correct Guille, but the expansion of the brain does mean that the mind is able to store more information as there is more space. The expansion increases the capacity to learn. For example, the human being can remember things for up to a life time but fish, sadly, only have a memory of up to 15 seconds. Small brain- less capacity. That is what I meant!
