The mind sees the universe the same way it sees the inside of a bathroom, as a globe around itself. We have just added the theory that it is something other than that, but there is no proof that it is.

I was really trying to describe consciousness in the context of what we experience--a 3-dimensional world. The inside of the football, in this model at least (which is consistent with Special and General relativity) is a totally different space, outside of our 4-D universe structure.

I won't try to deny you whatever speculation you may have about how consciousness may participate in that space (our 4-D spacetime must be embedded in a hyperspace), but I was trying to describe a concept that is consistent with what we know and experience so far.

Maybe our inner experience arises from interactions with media of higher dimensions--I don't know and haven't seen a systematic argument compelling one to accept that concept. I could make up a theory that says that we were all born two microseconds ago with a memory, but by a number of criteria that would not be an interesting theory to throw on the table.

Nomad There is no theory needed to compel one to accept that the universe is within an imaginary globe. Unfortunately that is the way it seems and the only thing we know for sure. All else is just wishful thinking such as things like matter existing without some human appreciating it. Nobody to watch the Big Bang then no Big Bang. We have just been fed this dogma of scientific fact for so long that we all generally accept it. They should teach idealism/figmentalism in schools because it's the only absolute truth we have.

It's probably not worth belayboring the point, but I think you may have misunderstood the significance of the "football" surface. We're not really on the surface of the football. An instant of time in the 4-D football is not just the circle around the hoop of the football, because there is really a 3-D spherical volume. I just couldn't picture more than one spatial dimension at a time. So, maybe we are saying the same thing. Our consciousness is inside a 3-D globe, which is a 3-D hypersurface of a 4-D football.

But the inside space of the 4-D football is somewhere else.

This is very close to my take on things.

Although I word it differently.
"Energy is life". All life is made of energy and all energy exists to live. All things happen to this purpose.

I'm not so sure the universe is old enough to be self aware, although I think it will be in time.
