Well I'm glad the Buddha and the Christ were not silent. That also goes for Plato, Aristotle and other Greek philosophers. Ditto for Newton, Einstein etc.

Rather than wisdom leading to silence, I think silence leads to wisdom. LISTEN!!

Some have said that being wise is knowing all that is truly worth knowing, others have said that if we were truly wise, we wouldn't be hanging out on message boards...

I have noticed that nothing sparks debate like controversy, and it does seem natural that when everyone is in agreement that there just isn't much to talk about. True wisdom and logic seem to have basic core irrefutable elements, so I wonder if that is why philosophy forums tend to either die down or become about something other than philosophy.

It is just after 5:00 a.m. and the sky outside my window shows the light of predawn, objects visible in black, white and shades of gray, devoid, as yet, of color.

The house is silent, or nearly so, save for faint hum of the small electric fan in the large media center computer on the desk behind me, and that funny little sound that refrigerators make as the compressor kicks in now adds a second faint hum. The pad of soft feet as the old male cat walks over to his dish of cat kibble.......a few crunching sounds.......returns to his mat and a soft thump as he allows gravity to assist him to a position of repose, after a slight rearrangement of limbs.

The forum, like my house, has been nearly silent for days, the visitors of old scattered like leaves in an autumn wind, with just a few remaining to stir with the breeze.....

Have they found what they were looking for, or have they given up the search......perhaps to search elsewhere and anew?

It matters not.

Everyone holds the key to that which they seek yet it is forbidden to show one another.

In one sense wisdom does lead to silence, I think. The more you know, the less you need to know. So there's less need for conversations, since conversations can be used to gain knowledge. However conversations may serve another purpose. It may be true wisdom to realize that you need conversations for your own well-being. Also perhaps it's wise to share your wisdom with others. Perhaps you don't need to learn more, but others may want to learn things from you.
