I once asked an atheist, scientist, if god was equated with the universe, would god exist?

Then both scientists and religionists can be happy campers.

As for the killing, I don't think it has anything to do with religion, Dave. If there were no such concept as religion the same folks would find another reason to kill.

When you can use the methodology of science to measure or observe god, then you can say he/she/it exists.
I would think if god existed he/she/it would make itself known to all and not just in the psychotic visions of individual members of the human race.

There a lots of reasons to kill or war, such as the differences between cultures, like Religion, which is a big one.

In general, only Islamic religious extremist commit suicide bombings, since they and 70 friends can be guaranteed a spot in Heaven, plus, their dead enemies go straight to Hell—a double victory. Their God, like most Gods, doesn't tolerate the others' false Gods.

Hello NOBODY
Killing happens not because of religion which of course is a man made concept and has no reality, and yet brings comfort to those who believe in religion, .. however the killing goes on because of fear, greed and lack where there is none to be found, except in the mind of the killers.
or and also the killers may have been brainwashed to kill. shocking but true.

love melanie .. (an atheist)

PS .. god, atheist, scientist, melanie, NOBODY, etc, etc, all one and the same ..

My God;

There sure is a lot of killing at this post.

I think part of the trouble with the extreme muslim fundamentalist is that the leaders encourage such actions and then reward the family members after their sons or daughters blow themselves up. I saw a program on PBS where a mother was encouraging her son to do just that to gain respect in the community and financial support by the extremist.

I remember during the Vietnam war Buddhist monks would set themselves ablaze in protest of the Catholic Diem regime. They were far more effective in accomplishing their mission. You felt sorry for the monks, not hatred as so many do towards the muslim murderers.

In other words if you want to commit suicide go ahead, though I wouldn't myself recommend it.

But none of this has anything to do with God other than an excuse. Obviously both acts were highly political the real culprit.

Peace Joy and Love to All,

Pat

Yes, the catholics just set other people ablaze! Hey, is that why the monks did it, do you think?

People look after the things they have affection for. It is thus essential that we learn to have affection for the planet that sustains us.

"The sense of threat from every quarter of what is known as the Establishment – which is to say, of modern civilization – is not altogether a put-on or an act for many of these young folk, but an actual condition of soul. The break-off is real, and what is being bombed and blown up outside are actual symbols of interior fears." - Joseph Campbell

Not sure if this is an appropriate place to post this but here goes

As humans do we really believe we exist ?

Think of an experience from your childhood, something you remember clearly,
something you can feel, maybe even smell as if you were really there,
after all you really were there at the time weren't you?how else would you remember it.
but here is the bombshell: you weren't there.
Not a singe atom that is in your body today was there when that event took place.
Matter flows from place to place and momentarily comes together to be you.
Whatever you are, therefore, you are not the stuff of which you are made of.
If that doesn't make the hairs stand on the back of your neck, read it again until it does,
because it is important*

Excerpt from the book .. The God Delusion: by Richard Dawkins
