    the mystery of probability

    Hey,

While watching "kung-fu panda", the old turtle master said "nothing is an accident" . I felt indifferent with that statement. One day I thought what if he was right. Then there is a sure chance to win the lottery. Now I'm stuck with finding a way to defeat probability and win it in 1 shot. So far I am unable to discover this knowledge . What do you think about this?

    PS: how to disable prefix?

Hi Roundhouse .... Democritus said “Everything existing in the universe is the fruit of chance and necessity”

I think I would place my trust in him before the old turtle master.

If you want to change the prefix, post back and I will do it for you.

    Hmmmm......

Depending on which theory of the universe (or multi-universe) you subscribe to, seeking to unravel the mystery of probability for something as mundane as winning the lottery, is possibly not an insight that the all-conscious (whatever you perceive it to be) may grant.

Should you, by chance, discover this knowledge, are you planning on sharing it?

    hi Graybeard,

Thank you for the lines of Democritus. That philosophy also encountered in my mind. Now I just have to switch back and forth to see which one I like.

Please disable the prefix for me, thanks.

    hi labelwrench,

Of course I'm not going to share it. Else everyone would use it and the answer is back to... probability and chances. hehe I belive probability and chances are outcomes base on agreement lines of the collective Conscious. So yes, there is a way to win the lottery, you just have to ask the all-conscious and give it a good reason why you should win.

    Re: the mystery of probability

Why, Roundhouse, you surprise me by your comment.

Knowledge is the birthright of all who seek it. No one "owns" Knowledge.

I am not speaking of the holding of patents or copyright law. The original train of thought that leads anyone to an understanding is there for anyone else to "discover."

Fortunately, the universe understands our nature, and will usally address our true needs, rather than our egocentric desires.

It is very interesting to observe circumstance, inputs and outcomes. I shall observe the exchanges on this tread, but I thank you for telling me in advance that I am unlikely to benefit from any insights you gain.

By the way, Kicks, the name is Labelwench, no "r".

    labelwench ,

Seems like you have taken my word as is. hehe The only two things in life I never have a firm grib of understanding is money and time. Most of my money has been given away and I never ask for return. I just wish I have all the money in the world to give it to everyone who wants it. Of course I do not wants to hold knowledge back either, it's our obligation to share, infact, it's our nature. Don't worry, you'll be the first one I'll tell if that's the case.

    Re: the mystery of probability

    Hello RHK,

Words on a screen, in the absence of the writer, become a representation of that person. Without tone, inflection and body language, I have no recourse but to "take you at your word."

With respect to "nothing is an accident", perhaps this is a reference to the idea that every choice we make in life sets in motion a ripple effect.
Had we made a different choice, the ripples may have brought about different outcomes, not only for the originator, but for everyone touched by the action of the expansion.

My personal area of interest is co-incidence, where unprobable co-relations seem to exist. Not in the form of conspiracy theory, LOL, but rather in nature's hidden wonder.

Measuring time, is a human construct, I believe. I rather think we would survive without observing it so strictly. Money only has the value we afford it, and the global economic situation is in the middle of a serious re-evaluation process at present.

To a homeless person with nothing invested in the financial markets, wanting only to be warm and ease their hunger, none of the above would be of concern.

I digress, my thoughts tending to tack from subject to subject like a sailboat facing a headwind.

    Later,

    Labelwench

Probability (and an electron) is like a crime wave chart. A crime could happen anywhere, but a lot of them are probable to happen in the downtown area, let's say, on the wrong side of the tracks. I guess they have more excitable electrons living there.

Accept probability theory. Resistence is Futile. And then profit from this information as Vegas and quantum physicists have.

Determinism sticks you to a given track Antonio, it's probability theory, which allows us limited freedom to get off a given track.

    Best,

    Pat
