The mind of human is the most violent, brutish, bloodthirsty mind there is.
for example (hard-core horror and sex films prove this)

Paradoxically: The human mind is the most gentle, compassionate, loving, beautiful mind in existence.

Makes one wonder whether the devil & god really do co-exist??

Methinks that all good&bad stories is what makes the world go round.
And like any nice dream or horror able dream, upon waking, it all turns out to be a big pile of babbling somethings and nothings........

    Re: Consciousness, Transcendence & Integration

Hi Mel....you may have bit right into ancient psychology with your post without realizing that...

The ancients perceived that there is a fundamental unity of existence in the universe and a consciousness is derived from what we might call "intelligently controlled isolation" which is almost a definition of self...(J.S. Gordon)

However based on the ancient principle that there exists a substrate of lower nature and lower mind and higher nature and higher mind....self can develop into either "self-discipline" or mere "self-ishness" which can consequently drift into incoherent self-indulgence, addictions or the pursuit of self-centered power....

Are we really as bad as the portrayal of hollywood horror and unconsuming sexual blatent expression?? How much of that is the smoke and mirrors of our cultural foundations of commercialism and the profit motive?? Are we hynotized by the over-arching power of our own media's ability to make us see ourselves on a much broader horizon that does no justice to the principle of human decency within our lives??

This I would say is our modern day paradox.....

    Excellent post Mikal.

I'd say we are hypnotized by the media, and we are definitely asleep to our own power that lies within.

What i find scary and dangerous, is that when people actually start to Believe in false beliefs.
They begin to believe that what they believe in ... is what they actually ARE .....

And they don't see that .. that just isn't true.

    Just a sidenote:

Suppose an actor on a stage is to play the part of a serial killer.
That actor doesn't go home at the end of the day full of worry and wonder if he really is a serial killer, he knows he is only acting.

    Re: Consciousness, Transcendence & Integration

Mel I would be thanking your posts but my computer has decided to be contankerous this morning and it is not downloading some of the buttons....lol..

I turned off my television about a year ago. I decided that the world was going to stop living in my living room and taking up my personal space. I also decided that 24 hour non-stop news could not be unless you were making people's lives, difficulties and heartaches the news! What a nasty thing, thats a low life preoccupation that does no justice to any of us....yet it does support the profit theme that runs our society...

I think if we understand it, we can stop fearing it and still keep our sanity and peace.....we also can help one another realize these things of which I do quite abit....

    I don't watch tv either.

I watch my garden and my koi fish, much more pleasing.

Ever since i had that epiphany where i transcended maya, i have enjoyed unprecedented health joy and happiness.

I like to think i share that with others here at the forum... ((smiles))

Thanks for being here Mikal .. I have grown very fond of you.

Your comment about the part of you that is "a jerk" is too funny. Its like my part "pig headed stubborness" and I decided like Jung noted, its my shadow part. I have to pay attention to it because it can either be my master, or I can learn to master it and use it in a more constructive manner that empowers my life rather than robbing me and disempowering my own life....it does rear its head in an unconscious sense but I am now conscious of it...there is a difference there...Jung called it "to be the master of your own soul."

Also thank you for kind words...

You know its strange Mel but Jung stated that "it is in contact with people of the same sex that one stumbles over both one's shadow and those of other people."

Might be quite revealing of our particular track record together here on the TOE....lol....we certainly clashed...your "jerk" and my "pig-headed stubborness"....our mutual annoyance certainly led to further intentions to be more conscious of this and to grow more understanding between each other...our shadow could be one of our main teachers do you not agree??

    Re: Consciousness, Transcendence & Integration

Yes, evolution ‘gapping’ still goes on. When the argument first gathered steam, there were but a few transitional forms known, although good ones, one being the bridge to vertebrates and another the bridge to flying creatures. There are many more now, of course, so, it is the data that has changed. These ‘gap’ arguments were already down to the faint hope that scientists wouldn’t find any more natural explanations, but the finds were inevitable. Creationists are still at the point of not being able to ‘push forward’, so all that’s left to is push back, albeit at the firmly established fact of evolution. Even the Pope concedes evolution, but tries to salvage the faith by saying that the mind was not at all involved.

Yet another Theity appeared. “I am the God of the Gaps. I Myself personally fill all the gaps in present-day knowledge or understanding, albeit a large and unwarranted assumption, but I do fill all—through the fiat of the Creationist’s endorsement.”

“These gaps shrink as science advances.”

“And so there is less and less for Me to do.”

“What worries me is not that you may be eventually laid off, but that Religion thinks it is a virtue to be satisfied with not understanding enigmas; scientists exult in mystery—it drives them onward.”

“Yes, but My believers exult in mystery remaining as mystery, and so they go no further, but, it keeps Me going. They worship these gaps as being Me.”

    “With no justification?”

“We have a ‘get out of jail free’ card; we have immunity to the rigorous proofs of science; we just claim things by their say so. All must respect that.”

“Then You lead a charmed life. You seek ignorance in order to claim victory by default; You’re like a weed thriving in the gaps of science’s fertile fields. Scientists rejoice in (temporary) uncertainty, whereas You halt all inquiry. You are the same God of Intelligent Design by a more desperate nom de plume.”

“I repeat that I intervene to fill the evolutionary gaps. I alter the DNA.”
(note: we could check the evidence for that.)

“We researchers fill the gaps in the fossil record.”

“Then there are twice as many gaps.”

“I’d laugh, but I know You’re not joking.”

“No joke. Lack of 100% complete documentation of Evolution means that I helped it along.”

“This is not a good default stance. So, do we let criminals go because we don’t have a video of their every intermediate foot step to and from the event?”

“No, of course not, but We are now a precariously perched theory. Also, you made a typo—it’s a God default stance, certified by nothing more than proclamation and a bull of decree.”

“An edict, huh. It was also once avowed that evil spirits, those that You Yourself allowed to exist, produced physical illnesses, but, thank God—just an old saying—that scientists persevered, and still do, in finding out about the immune system—our defense against the non evil spirits of germs, viruses, and bacteria.”

“Yes, that claim was dead wrong, but evil spirits still cause the nonphysical mental ills that are called sins and bad thoughts, crimes even.”

“Still trying to halt scientific inquiry, I see. Mental lapses called sins or crimes stem from wrong learning-upbringing and/or low serotonin, not to mention differences in culture, such as religion, those that people think undermines their own belief’s credibility.”

“Okay, I give up. Go on with your work to discover important truths about reality, but some fossils are missing.”

“Only a tiny fraction of corpses fossilize; however, not a single fossil has shown up in the wrong geological stratum.”

“Well… sad for Me, but true. I’d still love to find a fossil rabbit in the Precambrian.”

“Dream on. Lazy reasoning is all that’s behind the declarations of irreducible complexity.”

“Yes, but this ignorance of the possible steps of Nature has kept Me alive.”

“And has just as soon forgotten You, in truth, but for the creatures who sustain your near-being.”

“Wait, what about an arch of bricks? Pull one away and the arch falls apart—it cannot survive the subtraction of a part, so, how, then, was it built in the first place?”

“Scaffolding, the same as has been seen in Evolution.”

With that, the Gap God fell apart and nearly evaporated to become a discontinuity Himself, but the Creationists held Him together with their last ditch effort.
