    Skills of Influence

    Here are some proverbs:
    1. Look before you leap.
    2. Look before you leap, but heaving leapt never look back.
    The proverb #2 can be considered the complete variant of the proverb #1.

    3. Divide and rule.
    How would you complete the proverb #3?
    4. Divide and rule …

    It’s very funny…

    If you like, you can complete it as you like;
    You preserved only general style with somehow curved meaning, but I didn’t ask for stylistical illogical completion, but logical mental construction like this:
    Divide and rule, but unite and reign…
    Or
    Divide and rule, but rule and multiply…

    Dear Guille!

    I’ll think over your variant above, but as you noticed, logical construction of all first sayings consists of two actions (two predicates):
    -Look (1) before you leap (2).
    -Divide (1) and rule (2).
    So, logical construction of changed sayings, i.e. results, generally consists of four actions:

    -Look (1) before you leap (2), but having leapt (3) never look back (4).
    ----English existing variant.

    Divide (1) and rule (2), but unite (3) and reign (4).
    ----My favorite variant.

    I’ll site several sayings below:
    -Never try to prove (1) what nobody doubts (2), but always try to prove (3) just the opposite of what nobody doubts (4).
    ----My favorite variant.

    Russian saying - analog to English one: make haste slowly:
    -Go slowly (1) and you will find (2) yourself further.

    Modification, which I heard from academician Kvesitadze, but never asked, whose it was:
    -Go slowly and you will find yourself further from the point of destination. (This one is meant for joke)

    If you can’t (1) have the best (2), do (3) the best, of what you have (4).
    ----English existing variant.

    Also, I’d like to change the title (“Influence skills” - unsuccessful one) of this thread for “Skills of influence”.
    Please, do it.
    Regards,
    zeroca.

    P.s. I offer my variants:
    -Use contact in the fight, but keep distance before fight;
    -Use contact in the fight, but always avoid fight;
    For joke:
    -Use contact in the fight in order to be delivered the more strong blow, it will surely be more useful to you.

    I agree there must be several parts in the proverbs, and mine has two: use contact (1) in the fight (2). The thing is I've used fight as known, but jsut change it to: Fight (1) using contact (2), but ___________. My favourite variant is the 'keep distance before fight' which you have given.

    There is a russian saying I once read, which I find very good. My translation from spanish is: To fall is permitted, to (recover / get up) is obligatory!

    I changed the title of the thread.

    Thanks!
    Two new variants: (the first one for joke)
    -Who says, that falling is permitted, and recovery (getting up) - obligatory, for them falling is obligatory, but recovery - restricted!
    So,
    -Falling for my children isn’t permitted, as recovery (getting up) for them will be restricted.

    Regards,
    zeroca.
