    doomsday messenger X

Grand unified theories (GUTs) predict the coming of a doomsday messenger particle christened simply as X. This single letter name shows the intersection of two lines. The center is that of a space-time singularity. However, the experimental trigger is the close encounter of two quarks, specifically inside a proton. A proton is a composite of 2 ups and 1 down quark. If these are scaled to the size of a bee then their confinement has a diameter of few million kilometers. A chance encounter between them seems unlikely. Nevertheless, the closer they approach each other the more probable that X materializes. The outcome signals the decay of a proton.

The annihilation process goes as follow: 2 quarks met, changed into anti-quarks and positron, the positron went off, the quarks shook hands, merged into pi-meson, the pion quickly splits into photons, the photons catch up with the positron and they have a party. Wait a minute! What about the electron? This is not a real party after all. This is an unreal party, a virtual party. It is taking place in the anti-world. As far as the electron is concerned, the proton vanished leaving it facing the hash reality of eternal loneliness let-out in the cold of real vacuum.

Postscript: The good news is that proton is a devoted partner. It stubbornly refuses to leave the electron behind. It honors the marriage contract which is good for more than 10 years. Protons comprehend the true meaning of everlasting devotion once they proclaim a bond with the electrons forming hydrogen atoms forever. Protons will never allow knowledge-quark and reason-quark to meet within its brain forming the deadly emotionless X boson and crossing the stream into the anti-world.

Post postscript: The Supreme Council of the anti-world has been meeting for a long time discussing the troubling large number of empty party rooms draining the dark energy supplies of the dark empire. They have sent secret agent anti-protons over to this world as wedding crushers to disrupt the marriage of proton and electron. One of their successful assaults was the Tunguska disturbance of the Force in 1908. They knew that 3 years before Einstein’s special relativity has betrayed their existence which was finally proven by Dirac a few years later. Nonetheless, the real battlegrounds can be found within each tag-of-war of binary stars systems, the supernova implosions and explosions. The most intense are centers of all galaxies and quasars. Furthermore, if intense x-rays are detected then it is an indication that the anti-world is winning but if a black hole is formed then it indicates that the anti-world has won. However, the fight for freedom of a galaxy continues…

We can sleep soundly since almost all the protons within our body refuse to go into the underworld that easily.
