Big Bang Theory - 05-08-2008, 10:37 AM

I am almost certain this subject has been brought up many times over, but I needed to ask anyway.

Could anyone explain to me in layman terms how the Universe started? What is the Big Bang all about? Now that we're at it, what other scientific theories are there besides the Big Bang?

Thank you

Hi Phoenix Invictus;

Thats a tall order. Let me direct you to two sites first for your perusal and then come back and ask your questions.

The first of course is the Wikipedia site at:
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang )

The other and a better source is NASA's site at:
( http://map.gsfc.nasa.gov/universe/index.html )

Have fun on your research.

Best,

Pat

Dear P. I.

There's a reinstated cosmological constant and unified field theory (which nullifies the big bang), at:

If you have the time to evaluate it, please let me know what you think.

Best regards,
- RP

(George Berkeley, 1710) ... lay the beginning in a distinct explication of what is meant by thing, reality, existence: for in vain shall we dispute concerning the real existence of things, or pretend to any knowledge thereof, so long as we have not fixed the meaning of those words.
